Design: The proposed massing approach is an infill, two storey extension, set back from the main facade (as the existing entrance), with a side storey element pushed out further than the existing footprint to use the area to the side of the house. The extension will form the retaining wall to the terrace. The architectural language of the extension looks to provide a contemporary twist on the local vernacular of brick and top hung tiles, through introducing black fish scale tiles at the upper level, framing a projecting oriel seat window to maximise views from the new primary bedroom towards the garden. The base will be red brick to tie into the existing with black framed crittall doors and windows.
